In this course, students will have the opportunity to learn basic video production skills (camerawork, lighting, audio production, and editing) to introduce the instructional video production process. The course will emphasizes design and development skills such as writing/storyboarding, graphic/aesthetic design, scripting, prototyping, editing, planning and problem solving, and formative/summative evaluation.
We will focus on non-linear editing (computer-based editing), graphics production and video production using digital editing tools. Students will able to produce videos in a variety of media including digital video (DV), VHS, DVD/CD-ROM, or for presentation on the Web
This course is not a production course; however, students will create short videos that develop technical skills in relation to particular educational contexts and situations. Issues that students will be asked to address include audience interactivity and engagement; conventions and genres of educational videos; representation; aesthetics; pedagogy; and the uses of educational video. Students and will read and relate the growing body of research related to the design and development of new media for learning and instructional purposes.
Students will have access to video production equipment for the purpose of producing a needed and useful instructional or educational video for a particular audience and context. Class time will be used for technical workshops and for studio time during which students show work and respond to each other's work
