It's been a nice ling break from the blog - time off for the holidays and then a frenzied start to the semester.
One thing I am very excited is we opened the new computer lab that is part of my NSF MRI grant. I am grateful for all the work our IT folks did in the few weeks between the fall and spring semesters to ensure this would happen!
We completely renovated the space - 2o new Macs with video data analysis tools, a new Smartboard and a mirrored projector on the other side of the room, and tools to support digital video production and data analysis. In addition to the technology we improved the universal design of the room (in some small measure) be removing the built-in "desks" and putting in adjustable tables and more easily adjusted chairs. This also opened the space up a bit more which is nice...
The lab will provide research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students at Syracuse University in multiple disciplines using leading-edge tools and techniques as well. This lab will also provide instructional computing resources (which I am very excited about in its own right!)
The new lab
Before (the pictures don't actually capture the striking difference in the space - I am probably biased on the basis of the conversion from PC to Mac alone ;)
